Toned glass window replacements

This type of glass is characterised by the colour additives incorporated into the glass during manufacture. The main types of colours that you could choose from include green, bronze, grey or blue toned glass. The different colours used will have an effect on your window's solar heat gain coefficient. This refers to the window glass' ability to regulate the amount of radiant heat that penetrates the glass into your home.

If you would like to ensure that your toned glass is highly energy efficient, then you should consider supertoned glass. This type of glass has higher pigmentation than regular toned glass. This increased pigmentation functions to transit light into the home while filtering out a majority of the infrared rays that are emitted by the sun.

Low emissivity glass window replacements

This type of glass is also referred to as low-e glass. You can get this type of glazed glass in two main coatings. The first is the vacuum deposited coating, which as the name suggests, is applied inside a vacuum. The second is the pyrolitic coating, which is deposited by having it baked onto the surface of the glass during the manufacturing process. Other than the two different coatings, you can also get this type of glass in two main strengths. These include the following:

  • High transmission glass: this type of low-e glass allows natural light to filer into your home while simultaneously reducing the amount of radiant heat that can pass through the windows.
  • Low transmission glass: this type of strength mainly function to reduce the amount of heat that is gained into the home. However, it has a decreased ability to let in natural light into the home; hence, they tend to make the residence darker than high transmission glass would.

It should be noted that since the glazing of low-e glass is adhered onto the glass rather than incorporated into it, measures should be taken to ensure that the replacement windows are installed correctly. Failure to have these installed by a professional could lead to the glazing deteriorating prematurely.
